If you are a UK school frustrated with the speed or reliability of your internet – you’re not alone. The more time I spend in schools the more stories I hear about how slow or unreliable some UK broadband services are.
Whilst big improvements have been made to the UK infrastructure for broadband and Wi-Fi generally– not all providers are utilising this, and continue to supply a sub-standard service or fail to advise schools accordingly.
With the upsurge in mobile device usage, the introduction of BYOD and increased reliance on “the cloud”, broadband should be a top priority for schools wanting to move with the times and empower their staff and students.

MSC IT Solutions today announced we have become a Microsoft Authorised Education Partner (AEP), demonstrating our ability to meet our Microsoft academic customers’ evolving needs in today’s dynamic business environment. To earn a Microsoft AEP authorisation, partners must complete a test to prove their level of academic licensing and market expertise.
The AEP program is designed to train participating re-sellers on Microsoft’s Academic licensing, authorise them to purchase and resell Microsoft Academic licenses, and demonstrate to potential customers that they are approved and knowledgeable academic partners.
Teachers and IT administrators can use the Set up School PCs app to quickly set up computers for students. A computer set up using the app is tailored to provide students with the tools they need for learning while removing apps and features that they don't need.
Earlier today we received a support call from one of our educational clients with a strange issue around Group Policy. The reason it was strange is that it was only affecting certain devices around the school, even after Group Policy Updates forcing them to run the same policy versions as a working machine on the desk opposite. After a lot of testing we narrowed it down to be related to a Windows Update… (Nothing new a lot of you will now be thinking)
It turns out that one of Microsoft's Patch Tuesday security releases issued this month has caused problems with Group Policy Object settings for some organisations that applied it, either by default and / or without in-depth testing.
