Have you ever been in a Teams meeting where someone keeps saying, “next slide, please”, and it makes your jaw tighten each time?
You’re not the only one.
If your business holds lots of virtual meetings or webinars, you’ll understand how frustrating it can be when handing over between presenters doesn’t go smoothly. Long pauses and awkward exchanges are all too common. Thankfully, a helpful new update is on the way. Microsoft is adding a small but very useful change to Teams that could make meetings run a lot more smoothly.
To start with, in case you’re not too familiar with it, Teams is Microsoft’s main platform for workplace communication. It brings together video calls, messaging, file sharing and collaboration tools in one place. Whether your team works from home, on-site, or a mix of both, Teams helps keep everyone connected without needing to juggle several different tools.
Now, about the update. Microsoft is introducing a new feature that allows more than one person to control presentation slides during a Teams meeting or webinar. At the moment, if you’ve ever tried to co-present in Teams, you’ll know that only one person can move the slides. Everyone else has to ask them to click through. It disrupts the meeting and makes it harder to keep things flowing. This new feature will allow the meeting organiser to give slide control to more than one presenter.
So, if a few people are presenting different parts of the same deck, each of them can advance the slides when they speak. No need to interrupt or give verbal cues. It should help meetings feel more polished and natural. The feature has already begun rolling out, starting with the Windows desktop version of Teams. Most likely, the host will be able to choose who can share slide control when they set up the meeting. With any luck, this process will be just as smooth as the meetings it’s meant to improve. It’s the kind of update that really should have been included earlier. Still, it’s good to see it arriving now.
This comes alongside other changes, such as being able to send instant messages during calls, which is great for people who prefer typing over speaking.
