What would happen to a business if one of its key tools suddenly stopped being safe to use? That is exactly the risk many organisations face with Windows 10. Microsoft has confirmed that free support ends on 14 October 2025, which means no more security updates, bug fixes or help from Microsoft if something goes wrong. Windows 10 devices will still run, but without protection they become an easy target for cyber criminals.
The urgency is real. A recent survey found that nearly one in five business owners had no idea support was ending, and a further 14 percent had thought about it but had not started planning. That leaves a large number of organisations heading towards disruption, data breaches and costly downtime. Microsoft will offer Extended Security Updates, but these come at a price, rise in cost every year, and only delay the inevitable.
The better solution is to move to Windows 11 now. It is faster, more secure, and designed for the way modern businesses work. It supports hybrid teams, integrates seamlessly with tools such as Teams, OneDrive and Copilot, and includes advanced security features to defend against today’s threats. The catch is that not every device running Windows 10 can run Windows 11, so some organisations will need to factor in hardware upgrades as well as software migration.
October 2025 is a fixed deadline. The longer businesses delay, the more expensive and disruptive the transition becomes. Acting now allows time to plan, budget and roll out upgrades properly, rather than rushing into last minute decisions. Any organisation that has not started preparing should ask the question today: “Are we ready for Windows 10 end of life?”
