Windows 10 is reaching end of life, which means no more security updates, no bug fixes and no support from Microsoft if something breaks. For businesses still running it, this is more than an inconvenience, it is a serious security risk. Every machine without updates becomes a potential entry point for cyber criminals, and with attacks on the rise this is not a distant concern but an immediate threat. Leaving systems unprotected is like leaving the office door wide open.
Some organisations hope to delay by using Microsoft’s Extended Security Updates. These will be available, but they come at a cost that rises every year. They provide only basic protection and no access to new features or improvements. They are a temporary patch rather than a long-term solution and relying on them leaves businesses exposed.
The better option is to upgrade to Windows 11. It is faster, more secure and designed to support the way modern businesses operate. It integrates with the latest tools and includes stronger defences against cyber threats. However, upgrading is not always as simple as pressing a button. Older devices may not meet the system requirements, meaning some organisations will need to plan for new hardware as well as software. Waiting too long risks rushed, expensive decisions and unnecessary disruption.
Time is short. Businesses still running Windows 10 should act now by assessing which devices can be upgraded and which cannot, then creating a plan to move quickly with minimal interruption. Early action reduces risk, ensures continuity and avoids being forced into last minute choices when the deadline arrives. October 2025 is approaching fast, and preparation today will determine whether the transition is smooth or costly.
